General Gist: The Train Your Dragon sequel where Hiccup and his crew take on an evil dragon collector to keep the peace between humans and dragons.

Tiff's Take:
For this week only one sister was able to make it.  It does happen occasionally believe it or not.  When it happens usually the kids luck out because who else am I going to go to the movies with?!

I took both my kids to this movie.  My 9 and 6 year old.  My 9 year old was much more interested in seeing this but the 6 year old will never miss an opportunity to go to a movie and get popcorn and treats.  

I enjoyed the first one so I thought this would be equally as good.  And it was.  There was a lot of action and it was fast paced which is always good for kids.  And both my kids enjoyed it.  My 9 year old probably liked it better and I think it was a little more appropriate for him as well.  I wouldn't say that this movie was really on the violent side but it definitely had some more serious subjects that were a little too heavy for younger kids.  Empathy is not really a strong attribute of my 6 year old but there was a point where she thought the movie was sad.  If you do have kids that are sensitive to emotions then you might want to think about whether you should take them to this.  

But for me and my kids it was a hit that we all thoroughly enjoyed.

2012: Week 25: Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

Genre: Drama, Comedy

Main Players: Steve Carell, Keira Knightley

General Gist:  The journey of two people during their last days as an asteroid is set to hit earth.

Tiff's Take:

Deb's on vacation and apparently doesn't have good movie choices in our little hometown so you just get me this week.  And I'll tell you right now I won't suggest that Deb goes to this some other time.  Not worth it.  Even if it's free.

I had highish hopes for this movie.  It didn't get a lot of press but I though it had potential to be a good one.  With Steve Carell I thought it would have some good comedy and with the story line I thought it would have a good serious side as well.  Boy was I wrong.  There were practically no funny parts and the movie just kept dragging on and on.  It was brutal.  I don't usually dislike a movie quite so much even if it's a little boring but there was absolutely nothing about this one that worked for me.

Steve Carell's character didn't really have any funny parts and his serious nature got old real quick.  Keira Knightley was okay if not slightly annoying.  Together they had zero chemistry.  It seemed like an odd match.  To top everything off, this was the movie I chose to take my not so movie going husband to.  I'm never going to live this one down. 

If I was the type of person to walk out of a movie this one would have made me do it.       
      
Tiff's Rate: Don't Bother.  Seriously just don't bother.

Week 25: X-Men First Class

This week was X-Men First Class.  Another superhero movie.  Have you noticed how many have come out recently?  Marvel is making a killing this year.  Just like last week with Thor, I expected to like this but wasn't expecting to enjoy it quite so much.  Although, I thoroughly enjoyed all the other X-Men movies I've seen so I'm not sure why its such a surprise.

This movie was a prequel to the other X-Men movies.  It was about how they all started.  I wish I remembered more of the other movies so it all made a little more sense but you didn't really need to know it all in order to enjoy this movie.

I thought all the actors were good.  I thoroughly enjoyed James McAvoy playing Charles Xavier.  I can't really place him in another movie but I liked him.  The other people were good too.  I really enjoyed seeing what each character's special power was.  I think that's part of X-Men that I like so much.  Kevin Bacon was a surprisingly good bad guy.  Oh, and I loved the 5 second cameo with Hugh Jackman.

I would highly recommend this movie.  Very entertaining.

To Sum it up: Good characters, very entertaining and a lot of action.
